Erandamula Kashayam

Erandamula Kashayam is a classical Ayurvedic medicine. It is available in liquid form. Erandamula Kashayam means the liquid decoction prepared by infusing the roots of Ricinus communis in water.

Acharya Charak has mentioned that ‘Erandamulam Vrishya Vataharanam Shrestham’ which means castor root is best useful in restoring vitiated and aggravated Vata & it is aphrodisiac. Erandamula is Vatahara (pacifies Vata), Udavartahara (relieves problems caused due to severe constipation), Bastishoolahara (relives pain in kidney-ureter-bladder region), Antravruddhinut (useful in hernia), Shoshahara (useful in emaciation), Shoolaghna (relieves any kind of pain) Anahahara (relieves gas bloating), Kati basti rujahara (relieves low back pain & KUB related pain), Shirorujahara (relieves headache), Amavatahara (useful in rheumatoid arthritis) & Shothahara (anti-inflammatory).

Erandamula is Vrishya means it is aphrodisiac but it does not exhibit the aphrodisiac property like Ashwagandha, Kapikachhu & likewise drugs.

Erandamula does not act on Retas i.e. ejaculatory semen but it acts on Sarva Shariragata Shukra. Sarva Shariragata shukra refers to a physiological entity which continuously generates new cells in the body to (regulate the wear & tear pheromenan) compensate the continuous degeneration occurring in the body. This function of new creation, anywhere in the body comes under the control of Sarva Shariragata Shukra Dhatu. Erandamula acts on this Sarva Shariragata Shukra Dhatu & that’s why Erandamula is said to be Vrishya i.e. aphrodisiac
