Shadanga Paniyam Yavakut means a coarse powder prepared from six Ayurvedic medicines. Shadanga Paniyam is a famous formulation cited by Acharya Charaka in the treatment of Jwara (Fever). It is widely used all over Bharat by Ayurvedic Physicians in the treatment of fever. Due to aggravation of pitta, when patient feel thirsty in fever, water processed with Shadanga Paniyam Yavakuta works very well. It relieves the patient from the annoying feature & also alleviates the fever. It is very good Pachana medicine, that’s why in Navajwara, for digesting the Ama, it is administered from the first day under ‘Langhana’ upkrama. It also relieves burning sensation in the body related to fever.
Many modern day practitioners have found this formulation very useful in all types of bacterial as well as viral fevers. It also improves the tastelessness associated with fever.
Shadanga Paniyam is very good Rasadoshapachaka i.e. it frees Rasadhatu from all of its impurities. Hence Shadanga Paniyam can be used without any doubt. Hrudroga, Pratishyaya are some of the diseases, where Rasadushti is involved. Shadanga Paniyam can be used there. One thing to note in the administration of Shadang Paniyam is that after preparation, it must be served ‘Shrutashita’ i.e. it must be at room temperature while being served to the patient.
